SecuROM

Eingetragen: 13.06.2019 Editiert: 31.07.2025

Securom is another copy protection mechanism from Sony DADC and was mainly used at weddings of the CD. Each medium was given an electronic fingerprint with which it was possible to implement various authentication checks throughout the application.

The aim of this software was to prevent the copying and revision engineering of software in now older games. Especially in games with Microsoft Corporations service Games for Windows Live, SecuROM was a popular component.

SecuROM's key features included

  1. CD Checks: SecuROM checks whether the CD or DVD of the game or application is present in the drive to ensure that it is a legitimate copy.
  2. Serial number verification: SecuROM uses serial numbers to verify that a copy of the game or application is authentic. The user must enter the serial number to activate the game or application.
  3. Online activation: SecuROM requires online activation to ensure that the game or application is not installed on multiple systems at once. The user must activate the game or application online to use it.
  4. Anti-tampering measures: SecuROM contains measures to protect the game or application from changes or manipulations that could be made by pirated copiers.
  5. Debugging and reverse engineering protection: SecuROM can prevent users from debugging or reverse-engineering the game or application to circumvent the security measures.
  6. Blacklisting: SecuROM can detect certain copy programs and tools and prevent them from running on the system to prevent pirated copiers from copying or duplicating the game or application.

In recent years, there have been repeated problems with SecuROM-related activations, especially in connection with older games   that were no longer officially supported. Running games with Securom on current operating systems is sometimes impossible because the activation processes no longer work or the Sony DADC servers are no longer available.

This can be remedied by the official SecuROM Removal Tool  , which was developed to remove SecuROM copy protection technology from games and other applications. Optionally on these pages as a direct download

Another option is to use third-party tools to remove SecuROM. For example, the 80_PA_keygen from exelab with which it is possible to force an offline activation.
